Group Two - Stormy Beacon

Team - Tom Pearce, Zhanshi Tracy Xiao, Aleksandra Cicha, Anton Boganskyi

The project is situated at most exposed site on the Kielder Water shore - its shores eroding, its trees resisting the icy south-east wind sweeping over the lake. Within this landscape, the structure is a beacon that directs visitors towards a stone shelter, that offer a temporary retreat from these harsh conditions.

Carefully and precisely tailored to the site using the scanned point-cloud, three delicately bent trusses are suspended between the same amount of trees and, waving in the wind, converge upon an existing Trig Point. At night, light emanates from this point and through the plastic rods that make up the trusses - dramatically inverting the structural logic as the surrounding trees are obscured by darkness.
