The second Kielder workshop entitled INSERTION will fabricate and deploy a series of 'site perfect' elements designed and made in response to the capture process. Students will use 3D scanning as the central technology (amongst others) to describe in forensic detail exact + unique site conditions. All sites will be precisely recorded and located in global space. Students will then perform an act of feral digital fabrication, building and locating their works on site in Kielder. Each insertion will respond to the title 'A MONUMENT to HERE, A SIGN to THERE'. Each insertion will be precisely located and a GPS guide book will form the basis for public discovery and engagement with the works.
The 4 day expedition will leave the Bartlett at midday Friday 22nd March, returning Tuesday 26th. Students will engage with a team of London based digital makers, local experts and Kielder residents throughout the site exploration, fabrication and exhibition process
All transport, accommodation, material and equipment costs are included but each student will make a contribution of £60 towards food & drink.
Any student wishing to take part in the Kielder 02 MUST attend a ScanLAB Open Class before attending the expedition. Ideally applicants for Kielder 02 will have attended one introductory course and one advance course.
